The instructor verbally leads students as a group
through the Primary series of Astanga yoga with emphasis on the
correct vinyasa and dristi. This class is akin to a traditional
yoga class found in the west.
Mysore style is the traditional method taught by Sri K. Pattabhi
Jois in Mysore, India. Students learn Suryanamaskara A, a salutation
to the sun, in week one followed by a short finishing sequence.
Week two, Suryanamaskara B is added on to A. In this way, students
leave their very first class with an individually tailored practice.
In week three, students begin learning the Primary Series, one asana
at a time, as each student is ready.
Mysore style builds a balanced system of body and mind through the
equal development of strength and flexibility, self-awareness and
acceptance.
