Melanie Fawer, director of The Yoga Room, has studied yoga for sixteen years.  She began Ashtanga with Pattabhi Jois in Mysore in 1994, was certified by him in 2001, and opened The Yoga Room in 2002.

The Yoga Room opened to share with others the traditional method of learning Ashtanga, for only through Mysore style can the myriad benefits of Ashtanga yoga be experienced and a personal yoga practice unfold.

Jessica Blanchard, a native of south Louisiana, returns home to teach at The Yoga Room after living outside the U.S. for nine years. For the last three years, Jessica taught full time at Yoga Thailand, a dedicated Ashtanga Yoga Retreat Center in Koh Samui.

Jessica makes frequent trips to India to study with Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, whom she first met in 2002, and authorized her in 2006. When she began Ashtanga in 2000, Jessica was immediately taken by the calm, tranquil state of mind brought about by the series of dynamic postures.

Since 2003, Jessica has also studied pranayama and philosophy with Indian master and head of the Kuvalyadham Institute, Sri O.P. Tiwari.

From Tiwariji, she has learned that yoga is an all-encompassing art and science of life and not something that is solely practiced on the mat. Jessica has also completed the practitioner's training in Ayurveda at the European Institute of Vedic Studies and is working towards a master's degree. Jessica is happy to be back in Louisiana and close to her family.
